Cleveland Park WineCleveland Park Beer, Liquor & Wine
Featuring a wide, international selection of fine wines, micro-brews and spirits

WE HAVE LOTS OF EVERYTHING 4 U!

WINE NOW as well as beer and liquor, all 4 u 2 give thanks, b thankful!

It's been a bit - a lot  crazy really here & In R World. how 2 process it all?!? how to adjust, keep r sanity, not lose it as we are all part of families. communities, neighborhoods, organizations, companies, job, volunteer positions helping others.

WE TRY our best to provide a harbor, an oassis, a place that can be a shelter for the many storms that we face daily these troubled days where the solace that comes from being together with family and friends becomes even more important that ever.

LIFE In the fast lane, we enjoy the commotion, the energy, the action and the passion, joy warmth and togetherness here as people gather to shop and taste, to learn, to share, to hear and listen, to tell their stories. How wonderful.

LIKE CESAR that just came by a little while ago asking me when he got here : " Do you have a case of the QUARA Torrontes? How many in a case? Six or twelve? " I said : " Yes. We have it, right here. " I showed him and Cesar decided to buy six bottles for his girlfriend that discovered it here but cannot find it now in Ohio where she lives. That was a good story ending well.

ANOTHER was with Josephine calling and asking for two bottles for Thanksgiving. She told me her name, asked I remembered her and her husband, I said that indeed I did. I had the lighter red already ready in my head, the CHATEAU GRAND TRAVERSE Gamay Noir 2013, $18.99 and told her about it. For the fluller-flavored red I said I would have to check and she said I had plenty of time as Richard would not be here to pick the two bottles up for another fifteen minutes. Phew!

THAT WAS PLENTY of time for me, and when Richard did show up I was ready with the Nebbiolo 2013 Charlottesville, Virginia GABRIELE RAUSSE, $21.49, and the CHATEAU GRAND TRAVERSE Gamay Noir 2013.

I TOLD RICHARD about Gabriele Rausse starting the Virginia wine business here in April 1976 when the only existing winery was FARFELU Vineyards. I also told Richard that Gabrielle is the head gardener, grounds-keeper at Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's estate there.

RICHARD is also the only person I know to have guessed me to look ten years' older than I really am! My wife said that maybe he needed glasses? I don't care, I told Richard so, he felt embarrassed, I tell him it was perfectly okay. WE both smiled.

SO JOSEPHINE, yes I know who you and Richard are. Happy Thanksgiving to you both.

GIVING THANKS at this time of the year, anytime, is about being together and sharing some time at the table, in the kitchen, in the family room, telling stories, listening, watching a game, whatever.

YESTERDAY I GRILLED some salmon on our grill out back. I poured a glass of the CASTILLO Del BARON Spanish 2014 Monastrell from Yecla that I had wanted to taste with food. We have it here On Special for $8.99 and I wanted to see how it was drinking now?

YESTERDAY EVENING at sunset it was beautiful and the breeze and wind made it seem quite cold. I loved the intensity of the Monastrell grape here, characteristic, alive, bright, rough, powerful, toasty and quite strong the edges that were so distinct and warming and welcoming to me, especially for only $8.99 a bottle, a grand deal indeed! I think that it is drinking really well and may be enjoyed with some flavorful dishes and even outside as I was braving the vanishing sun on one horizon and the brightening and visible orb of an almost full bright moon in back of me. I loved it all, poured some of the CASTILLO Del BARON red Monastrell on my salmon to tenderize, moisten it , flavor it, too just a tad, just the slightest bit. Steam rose as I did. I took photos of the disappearing sun and the clarifying moon .... winderful, and the Yelca red warmed me, and the salmon was amazing, too later with my wife.

I WOULD Have Enjoyed more but we had an emergency that took us to Kaiser, hours later we discovered it was a false alarm, everything well, and so my glass that was on our dining room table was still poured and full, but it was too late  to drink ot.

FAMILY CAME THEN , STILL DOES FIRST. The wine was there, and will still be tonight when I pour another glass of this excellent CASTILLO Del BARON with dinner tonight.

Old Store Email To Enjoy Reading! Cheers, Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!

WHAT FOLLOWS is an old store email from November 2010, read and enjoy if you have time, Cheers,  TONY  11/24, 2015

so many trucks have come by last week with their deliveries and we did not know where to put them!

ALL IS WELL AND ACTUALLY CALM AND SUNNY and really nice : the CALM before the STORM : it's quite civilized and I am really enjoying " this moment ". Just got a call to ship some Georgian TELIANI dry red Saperavi oaked ( $13.49 red label  ) and unoaked ($10..9, black label ) dry red to Syracuse, New York in time for Thanksgiving. They would actually work, especially the unoaked Saperavi.

I LIKED MY DRIVE THIS MORNING, especially driving through Rock Creek Parkway and then weaving a trail on up through Cathedrale Avenue with all the gorgeous changing colors of the leaves from the brightest of the yellows to the densest of the oranges, the bright toasty reds and simmering-shimmering darker ones to the matted browns and furrowed eyebrows of the trunks of the trees and the rising spires of deepened and mounting evergreens  reaching for the wispy white clouds and the baby blues in the skies high up above - /!!!9,( ----- )!!!! ''''''' YIKES -  WOW, Tatiana Maria just blew me away by walking through the front door!!!!

" Surprises surprises, I'm back in town and the first stop I've made is at Cleveland Park to see Tony, Santos, and the crew. I miss my friends!  It is important to note that good friends are never forgotten! I will always make a stop here whenever I am in Washington. "  Tatiana Maria

Tatiana used to sell us many wines here with Billington Imports that included the CATENA, COUSINO-MACUL wines and more. She , of course used to come here with her two beautiful sisters before ( Stanna & Jasmine ) and they team-up on me and bat their beautiful eyelashes and smile their dazzling smiles at Mike Martin and me with the obvious question that was being asked but never stated : " How much wine from Spain and how much Mauler Swiss bubbly can we send you as well?  " Oh, I forgot to mention the famous Portuguese wines that you sold us as well as the Spanish dry white Verdejo that was so popular with our customers for so many years! We still sell the Verdejo and buy it now from Elite Imports.

Tatiana was here with Nicolas her fiancee and they are about to get married, how exciting. He's a very lucky man indeed, Tatiana...

MORE GREAT WINES FOR THANKSGIVING :

I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE with Andrew Stover of Vino50 Selections that brings us so many of these fun and exciting wines from Arizona, Michigan, Hawaii and Idaho. He as well as Rachel Martin the owner of BOXWOOD Winery here in Middleburg, Virginia just participated in the National Wine Experience at the Newseum which featured wines from 25 states in the U.S.
Andrew Stover tasted  the following wines that were popular:
       1) " SX " from  Laurence Mawby , Michigan sparkling dry rose of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, $20.99
       2) " Wet " from Laurence Mawby , Michigan sparkling dry 100% Pinot Grigio soft dry, $20.99.
       3) Dry red blend of Pinot Noir, Marechal Foch and Chambercin grapes make up this zippy, lively, refreshing and perfect Thanksgiving red from SHINDIG in Michigan. It sells for $17.99 and I recommend it with things like the fresh cranberry sauce. It's fun and exciting and cutting-edge.

GREAT HOLIDAY WINES WITH RED MEATS :

AND FROM RACHEL MARTIN at the BOXWOOD Winery in Middleburg, Virginia she poured at this same event with Andrew Stover the 2007 TOPIARY Red Bordeaux blend ( $28.99 ) as well as the " newly released " 2008 TOPIARY and the 2008 BOXWOOD ( also both $28.99 ). We also have the half bottles ( 375ml size, $17.99 ) for sale as well of the BOXWOOD. ALL these would be lovely with a nice cheese or two and also with some red meats as well. But then again they would also work with well-seasoned vegetarian food where they use some blue or gorganzola cheeses, or Welsh rarebit, a British dish made with British cheese, bread. Go to the " new " show called : " Two Fat Ladies " and I am sure they would have a recipe for this. The show is great by the way.

THE WINE-CLASS this past Saturday was fun because we had a surprise visit from Rachel Martin who stayed and shared her personal experiences of learning the wine business both in Napa, California and Bordeaux, France. She also shared many of her experiences about the local dining experiences in both restaurants and wine bars here in the District and in Virginia and Bethesda as well. I introduced her to Sorriso Ristorante Italiano here and she says that she will take her dad there sometime soon. Fun.
     THREE BIG SUCCESSES are :

       1) Viognier from LOREDONA Vineyards , the 2009 Lodi with lots of fruit is $10.99 a bottle.
       2) Dry red Sicilian blend of Nero D'Avola, Syrah and some Frappato, $25.99 is like a really spicy and dried-fruit voluptuous Italian Veneto Amarone-style wine. It's pretty decadent, really.
       3) Muller Thurgau dry Italian white ( $16.49 ) from PRAVIS Vineyards in the Dolomite Mountains hugging Switzerland and Austria : this smooth and flavorful and yet distinct is another great wine to enjoy with this Thanksgiving meal.       Thanks Rachel, I'm glad you could be a part of our tasting
here.
       4) AND JUST IN : We received the bone-dry , excellent ( d. ) De Blanes Muscat Sec 2008 ( $14.99 ) from France that will cut through many a taste and a flavor. It's superb and dry with great minerals and acids to cut the grease and the fat and the stronger flavors in many foods.

       1) Gamay Beaujolais Nouveau 2010 from BOUCHARD AINE & FILS, $10.99 from southern Burgundy is smooth and really bright and elegant, great toasty mild roasted berry-red cherry flavors with little or no bite.
       2) Gamay Beaujolais Nouveau 2010 from MANOIR DU CARRA ( $9.99 ) is flavorful and more toasty and pointed with more of a real spread of flavors with more highs and lows. It's an excellent food wine for the turkey or the goose, duck or other game, even smoked turkey, other smoked items like salmon and even oysters in oil! Lovely really.

So many of your visits were heart-lifting and meant a whole lot to me, and it is a loss, and I miss many of you as I / we carry on and continue to share and to teach, to entertain and to comfort and cheer, especially in these really trying times with the Paris attacks recently shing light on so many things that need to be addressed and corrected, healed and comforted.

IT IS LIKE SHOPING NOW HERE in a totally new store! Mark that used to work here twenty-five years ago with Ed and Eddie came by this past weekend to see the store once again. Mark is still in the wine business and he was really impressed. He told me : " I hear so many good things about the store. " That made me smile from ear-to-ear! I loved it, really I did.

IT IS ALMOST LIKE WORKING IN A ' New Store ' for me here as we have cleaned, polished, brightened, waxed, shined, added more shelves to those existing, and thus made more clearly visible to you all.      2) QUINTESSENCE Bordeaux red 2010, $14.49,  with 13.5% alcohol by volume, a wonderful food wine from a great vintage in Bordeaux , and at a great price, too! Love it, needs a meal!

     3) Chenin Blanc 2015 , a single vineyard Block V dry white from DE MEYE, Stellenbosch, South Africa, $12.99, that we just sampled you all on here this past weekend when John Morrison came to pour the wines of DE MEYE, six in all! ... The Chenin is soft and bright, mellow and mild, lilting and lulling and soooooo suesuesueSUEoooooootthhhhing! I liked it, really nice to sit and sip and relax and spend some time listening to others and coming to appreciate and understand them even better.

     4) Littel River 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon from DE MEYE, also poured here this past Saturday by John Morrison, is heartier, beefier, more rustic and rough, rumble and tumble style that calls out for a flavorful cheese, some tasty vegetarian dishes, some oriental, Indian dishes, bring out the curry, have some more dill, even a splash of a hot pepper here or there to smooth-out the sharp jags of acidity and tannins here, the wine and the food together here, a great winning combo! I liked this a whole lot, got my juices flowing it did, with each sip.

     5) Minervois French red called CAMPAGNE DE CENTEILLES , a 2010 ( great vintage in France ) dry red blend, $17.99, a complex dry red blend to enjoy with a flavorful meal, chill the wine thirty minutes before serving, made by Patricia Boyer-Domergue, using 70-100 year old vines, producing only natural wines from hand-harvested grapes, all sounds and tastes divine to both Chris and me that tasted it here within the last two weeks with John Chadwick our rep fpr Tenth Harvest. Thank you John!

     6) 2012 dry red southern Burgundy from the town of Morgon  using 100% Gamay grapes, $20.99 a bottle with 13% alcohol by volume, a softer, gentler, less tart or tangy Beaujolais cru village wine here, perfect to enjoy now with this colder weather, damper, too, rain coming Thursday, come get some tomorrow and save 20% off the price marked here.

     7) 2013 Chenas red Burgundy wine , $21.99, made by CHRISTOPHE PACALET, made from 100% Gamay grapes, this has substance, juevos, real angularity and bristling and bright clairty, a touch of toast and steel to make you jump, make you start, make you move and react to it's flavors. A great food wine, a great way to wash the food away while mingling with the flavors of the food and enticing more of those flavors to pop and to come out, to reveal themselves, to be better enjoyed, to better enhance the moment, to bring the moment's joys to you more completely! Yes, si si oui, oui, oui oui OUI!

     8) Gruner Veltliner  Loisium 2013, a Reserve DAC, from Karl Steininger, from Austria, $21.99, with 13.5% alcohol by volume, this is a bracing and broad and brimming-with-flavor and character dry white that has a solid and broad base to complement many a meal s the temps drop and the rain starts to fall from our skies above, it will dry you and satisy you, too. I like this, distinctly tasty and a treat especially now, fine with turkey and Thanksgiving.

    9) 2006 Bordeaux Superiore from CHATEA SENAILHAC, On Special for $22.99, just a few bottles left, really delightful and wonderful now, maintenant, no need to wait any longer. This is a beauty to drink even at Thanksgiving, not heavy, not sharp, all the tar, leather, toasted and spicy overtones are all balanced and really nice and providing great enjoyment with a meal, I like it a lot, and we will have magnums of it soon. That will be very nice for the end of the year.

    10) Tr ELLIOTT ' Queste ' Pinot Noir from California's Russian River Valley , $47.99 a bottle, with 14.5% alcohol by volume, a Burgundian-style Pinot Noir. I just tried with Dan Terrasa the entry level, this is the next step up and more flavorful and complex with great breed and balance. Both Chris and I really liked it a lot. I liked today's, too and am happy to have this for a special celebration at Thanksgiving, to those that really know and love wine, and are willing to spend the extra on it.

HAVE ALREADY HELPED you all with what you need as today is Diwali and it's gray, cold, raining and a great day to be inside already well-provisioned. That would be the best. I looked into the Diwali holiday earlier as I do not know the details and I read that it is Diwali/ Deepavali : the festival of lights and the beginning of the Hindu New Year. I also learned that it is celebrated by India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Mauritius. That got my attention that Mauritius celebrates it as I have a good friend living there now, Tatiana Maria that used to sell quite a great selection of wines from Spain, Switzerland, Chile and Argentina, too. Oh, I forgot Portugal! Tatiana stops to say " hello " to all of us when she comes through to visit her family here and it's always a pleasure to see her.

IF YOU HAVE ANT " Last Minute " NEEDS for DIWALI please do come and see us. We have lots of liquor " on sale " as I understand that that is enjoyed on this day along with other things like wine and beer as well. THERE'S A " Mail-In " $5 rebate here on the ABSOLUT vodkas. Come get some while you still can, good for a purchase of any two ( 2 ) 750ml bottles of ABSOLUT vodka. Great gifts, also fine for Diwali today! THE SUN'S COME OUT : it was rainy, dreary, gray, wet, and cold earlier when I walked our dog and neither of us enjoyed being outside then. It would be different now. This is all good news as the temperature has dropped.

JOIN US> We will also taste the GEORGES DUBOEUF and the BOUCHARD AINE PERE ET FILS as well. SUNDAY WAS GLORIOUS for so many of us I am sure. I was outside raking and bagging leaves in my shorts. I felt great and happy to be outside with our two animals working hard to do a job that would be soon erased with more leaves falling. Sure enough this morning as I looked outside much of my hard work was gone and only the large bags filled with leaves told the story of the work already accomplished.

THIS PAST SUNDAY EVENING  with neighbors we enjoyed some excellent hummus and a brie-made-with-goats'-milk and some of the Jed STEELE California wines : 1 ) the Shooting Star Sauvignon Blanc and the  2) STEELE Old-Vines " Pacini " Vineyard 2008 Zinfandel. They were both excellent. Everyone liked both and I must say that the Shooting Star Sauvignon and the STEELE Pacini old-vines Zinfandel that Jed owns worked beautifully with our hors d'ouevres so well. The Zin and the Hummus were to " tell great stories for ", " imagine great scenarios for ", " relax and enjoy, smile, feel joy and absolute harmony, faith, contentment for " ... pretty much everything except to " die for " : reason being you can only die once. You want to return for more of this type of contentment and joy when two or more things complement each other so as they did this past Sunday evening. Cheers. THIS PAST WEEKEND we had a KONA Brewing Company tasting of three-of-the-four Hawaiian beers. They were all well-received and we have some in our cooler and ready for immediate sale. We have in the front the " Big Wave " Golden Ale On Special for 8.99 a six-pack 12 ounce bottles, 4.4% alcohol by volume, ) : " ... making handcrafted ales and lagers of un-compromised quality ...  catch the crest of a breaking wave and ride it all the way,  in our sun-drenched big wave golden is a smooth refreshing brew inspired by what makes Hawaii great ". For more info go to : www.KonaBrewingCo.com. Cheers. ALSO THIS PAST FRIDAY we had Jody Jackman of Winebow Imports here with us tasting two fine " classics " in the wine world :  1)  Pinot Grigio delle Venezia, the 2011 Italian  dry white from ZENATO ( $12.99, 12.5% alcohol by volume, www.zenato.it ) , and the  2) Malbec 2010 from CATENA  from Mendoza, Argentina ( $22.99, 13.5% alcohol by volume,  , founded in 1902, 3rd and 4th generations : Nicolas and Laura Catena ).
BOTH showed beautifully. The Pinot Grigio was fragrant and floral and had a lovely accent of peach that I found very appealing this past Friday. So did many of our customers as we sold quite a bit. The CATENA Malbec was flavorful, round, forward and easy to sip with soft, generous tannins. What's not to like? That's why it, too sells so well. BOTH are here in stock around our tasting table. Come check them out and see what you think. The Malbec is perfect for this cold, especially when the sun goes down. The ZENATO Pinot Grigio is perfect to sip anytime all by itself. The owner Alberto Zenato came to see us years ago. We have met Ernesto Catena here in the store that sells us his Alma Negra Blend dry 2009 ( $21.99, Mendoza, Argentina, www.almanegrawines.com.ar , 13.5% alcohol by volume ).

Tuesday, Nov. 10th, 2015 CP WineSpirits Weekly Store Email, Read & Enjoy!

Cleveland Park WineCleveland Park Beer, Liquor & Wine
Featuring a wide, international selection of fine wines, micro-brews and spirits

WE'RE HERE TO share with  YOU ...

WHAT YOU DOn'T KNOW About ask us...

WHEN YOU have a question please ask us? This email will be all about that. We have questions ourselves. WE ask questions all the time. WE vocalize our thoughts, concerns, and try and picture and explain. Seeing the bigger picture, the framework, the system, the chain, the tiers, the options available to us as a small business boutique fine spirits store fighting for our lives to stay here, to be relevant to you, to keep you happy and coming back for more.

I KNOW I HAVE been very assertive and insistent, persistent, please do not take it wrong, my intentions are only to try and share and open the world to you, so that you know what your options are so that you may better decide what fits the specific mood or circumstance, not only for you but for those ithers gathering around you.

IT'S A BIT DAUNTING, we all know this. However, we want it to be the best that it possibly can for you. That is our aim.

THIS WEEK WILL BE about sharing loval spirits with you from ales, beers, ciders, liquors, liqueurs, and wines. We have some old favoroites like the ...

1) Single Malt Whisky non-chill-filtered Rappahannouk pot-stilled from WASMUND'S, $39.99 ( aged in Cherry barrels )  that we have been selling here ever since Rick Wasmund's partner Sean showed it to us in 2007 I believe? We were one of the very first here in Washington D.C. to sell it, and we later added ...

2) the COPPER FOX Rye whisky, $44.99 when it became available. Both Rick and Sean have been here tasting at least two times each. It has been fun to work with Rick and Sean and to watch them first grow the rye and the grains used to make their spirits, to hear them tell their stories here to us and to our customers. This has been a great partnership since the very start. Thanks Rick and Sean. We have both of these here now in time for the holiday season, the cold and the family gatherings.

CHECK OUT the pictures and the writing, stories posted on both WASMUND'S and on COPPER FOX at : chatwine.blogspot.com. Cheers.

HAVE YOU TRIED yet the DEVIL'S BACKBONE Brewing Company Vienna Lager , or their IPA? They have been amazingly successful, as has the WASMUND'S and the COPPER CREEK, both gaining and audience and a fan base of followers that support and recommend, just like us, these fine local Virginia products! The 6-packs are On Special for $9.99 for the 12-ounce bottles, with 5.2% alcohol by volume, and they are flavorful, distinct, real tastes that will hold their own as this wind and sometimes biting cold sweep through our neighborhoods , hoses, apartments and streets : brrrrrrrrr, stay warm and happy, enjoy DEVIL'S BACKBONE Brewing Company ales and lagers!

I REMEMBER when the DEVIL'S BACKBONE was introduced here and we did our first successful tasting. People bought and were impressed. I included the two here in a private wine-tasting that I did as the husband preferred beer while his wife wanted to have a win-tasting. I wanted everyone to be happy. They were, too. The DEVIL'S BACKBONE ale and lager spoke to the fifteen or so guests gathered around the large  rectangular table. I had to pour more, they wanted more, even after all the excellent local wine I had poured, it was a great local celebration way back when!

I JUST SPOKE to owner Rob Miller last Thursday or Friday here of the CIDERWORKS DLC in Jefferson, Maryland, he will come and pour some of his excellent sparkling apple ciders, made from his own orchard apples that he grows on his property there, no extracts, nothing added from other areas , just pure apple juice hard cider, showcasing the various apples he grows which are more than thirty types! This will be fun.

FROM DLC CIDERWORKS we have  now in stock ...

1) The Jefferson Hard Cider, $18.99 for a 750ml bottle  with 7.5% alcohol by volume, as well as the Kingston Black Hard Cider, $28.99, with 7.5% alcohol by volume, both ar distinct, flavorful, better when you combine them with some food. They have so much flavor and taste that the food helps to flesh them out, and they, in turn help to brighten and freshen the flavors in the foods themselves : a grand ' win-win ' situation for all! Come taste with Ron Miller, discover great and distinct and flavorful local apple ciders made close by in Jefferson, Maryland!

SPEAKING OF WHICH, our ' Big-Theme Sparkling Champagne Bubbly ' Tasting is coming up on Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015, so : MARK your calendars! It will be from 5:30-8:30PM, and it is FREE! I understand many stores are no charging for these. I am trying to avoid that. The complaint is that people come to taste and do not support the event by even buying one bottle. PLEASE BUY a bottle and show your support for this. I do not want to have to start charging.

SO : THIS YEAR our annual, most-popular Bubbly, Sparkling, Champagne Tasting is Free on Wed. Dec. 2nd, 2015 from 5:30-8:30PM. JOIN US, no charge.

ALSO LOCAL : we have the handcrafted , small batch MT. DEFIANCE dark rum from Middleburg, Virginia, $39.99 a 750ml bottle, with 40% alcohol by volume, fiery, flame-fresh and good earth and spice, very tasty and best with some food or later at night after the meal. It is a great way to bring both the day and the night to a beautiful, peaceful, impactful close. Aaaaaaahhhhhh yes!

I WAS INTRODUCED to MT. DEFIANCE by our great neighbors Kate, Alex and Gregory, they had visited the distillery and bought some and wer both impressed and quite proud, and offered me a taste when we visited one weekend several months ago. And now Estebe of Tradewinds Specialty Imports is here offering it to us all. An almost full-circle, we are working on our part.

TOMORROW, we have Lucinda Williams here to pour the grand wines of GABRIELE RAUSSE from his own winery GABRIELE RAUSSE Winery  in Charlottesville, Virginia, 22902. Gabriele started here all the way back in April 1976 I believe? He was one of the very first, perhaps the second as the FARFELU Winery did exist at the time, and students from UVA brought him some to taste.

GABRIELE worked with the Zonin family of Italy way back then and they had to start the business as a wine grape nursery and not vineyards, that was mandated then by the Virginia local government. I do not think the first wines made from the grapes they grew at the nursery were available till 1979?

GABRIELE HAS TASTED here now three or four times and I love his wines, they are pure expressions of what Virginia can do, mostly in stainless-steel, not oaked, using only Virginia grapes and not grapes added in purchased from New York or California, or other regions like Washington State. Pure Virginia grapes to enjoy that are bright, fresh, lively, and versatile with almost any meal or completely on their own.

JOIN US TOMORROW,Wednesday, November 11th, 2015 with Lucinda Williams here from 5-8PM and taste :

1) 2013 Pinot Grigio, $20.99, with 12% alcohol by volume. See what you think?

2) NV Cabernet Sauvignon , $19.99 with 13% alcohol by volume, a favorite of mine for years.

3) 2013 Nebbiolo , $21.49 with 13% alcohol by volume which, I believe sees a minimal time in older oak barrels, perhaps 3 months? I will check?

THEY ARE all three delights, balanced, and great suggestions to enjoy now during these days and nights as the temperatures drop and the leaves continue to drop and the wind howls longer, louder and with more cold clout!

AND AS A TREAT Lucinda will also taste Claude Thibaut's Virginia THIBAUT JANISSON Xtra Brut NV, sparkling wine made in very limited quantities, $36.49 a 750ml bottle with 12.5% alcohol by volume. I am looking forward to trying it having never sampled it yet. It will be a treat for me as well as for you all.

LOCAL WINE We Highly Recommend :

     1) Virginia THIBAUT-JANISSON Blanc De Chardonnay half bottles ( 375ml bottles , $21.99, with 12.5% alcohol by volume ) that we have sold and tasted and represented here with Claude and Pamela since they started selling in Washington D.C. many glorious moons ago.

     2) ' Mom ' , dedicated to all mothers, n off-dry white blend of Traminette grapes and others, from the NARMADA Winery, a 2011, $20.99, 13.6 alcohol by volume, so floral and bright and lush and full on the palate, a great crowd-pleaser!

     3) Rkatsiteli indigenous grape variety , dry , flavorful grape, from Georgia originally I believe? This one comes from Mark Fedor of NORTH GATE Vineyard in Loudoun County, VA. $20.99, with 13% alcohol by volume, a fine food wine, fine with turkey and goose and chicken, with smoked meats and fish, like smoked trout!

     4) 2013 Sauvignon Blanc from BIG CORK Vineyards, Maryland, $21.99, Frederick, 13.8% alcohol by volume, ... very dry, very flavorful, a great food treat from Dave Collins that used to make the wines at BREAUX Vineyards in Virginia.

     5) 2013 Chardonnay from the BIG CORK Vineyards, Maryland, On Special for $17.99, slightly oaked, opulent, a bit more in the popular West Coast style.

     6) ' R ' Cabernet Franc 2013 from RAPPAHANNOCK Cellars , $32.99, 13.6% alcohol by volume,  a tasty, more body, more pith and dollops of spice evenly spaced, ah yes!

     7) Virginia ' Midnight ' Semi-Dry Chambourcin 2011, $19.99 a 750ml bottle with 13.1% alcohol by volume, is ripe and full and delectable to sip all by itself.

     8) The Melange 2013 dry red blend for PARADISE SPRINGS in Clifton, VA, $32.99, is a real treat, and we will be on the next vintage when we order again.

     9) 2013 Viognier from the BREAUX Vineyard , $28.99, is pretty electrifying and resilient and such an entertainer, too : lovely!

    10) 2013 Chambercin dry red from FABBIOLI CELLARS in Loudoun County , $18.99, with 12% alcohol by volume continues to impress me as the vines age and the wine becomes more voluptuos and lush and fruit-forward, so pleasing to enjoy with or without a meal, chill 30 minutes and enjoy fully!

    11) 2012 Cabernet Franc from FABBIOLI CELLARS , $20.99, with 12.5% alcohol by volume is grittier, earthier, more grip and grist and body, and I liked it a whole lot when Doug tasted two past weekend's ago.

    12) 2013 Meritage dry red Bordeaux blend from NORTH GATE Vineyard, $27.99, with 13.6% alcohol by volume, I loved how immediate and bright and round and polished this taste was, exciting, balanced, a real treat from Mark Fedor in Loudoun County, VA. He poured this alongside Doug Fabbioli a couple of weekend's ago.

Anthony Quinn It was a novel and spontaneous impulse, sort of going directly to the source, it appealed to me, a lark, fun, I thought he would like it, but he did not leave a comment. Anyway, it was great to see your picture here Phillip, and it sure is a pleasure to always sell your wines as you already know, they continue to sell really well here, and I love having them on our shelves as I like having those of Mike's, ... hope you are well? Best to all there, keep up the great work, and we will shortly have your everyday value red to sell as well! Happy Tuesday, it is a beautiful fall day here as I get ready to write today's store email , and I think I will mention these fabulous wines of South Africa as I do ... great start to a fine week ahead ...

GREAT INDIAN SUMMER day today, I sure enjoyed my ride to work this morning. It is a bit bittersweet as I drove here as the wind and the rain have knocked many of the colorful leaves off the trees. The colors are also fading ever so , and yet the view is magnificent and makes me think of the fall and our many wonderful holidays and also meals that we are enjoying now and will soon with more gathered family and friends around our tables that we add leaves/sleeves into the tables to make them stretch longer to fit more people.

IT IS ALSO STILL GREAT GRILLING time as even with the colder weather at times the smoked flavors on vegetables, fish and meats is wonderful. I grilled some steaks last night along with chicken thighs. Enjoyed some last night and have some, including the salmon fillets to enjoy for dinner and lunches here through the week. Tastes great, saves us money as well.

I GOT NUMEROUS complements last night on the steaks I grilled from my wife, that did not escape my notice and I smiled and appreciated each and every time that she mentioned this to me as we sat at our table last night with our daughter, nice to be together, the three of us and her two visiting cats!

Aaaaahhhhhh, life sure can be grand, I am enjoying appreciating each and every moment. I am also enjoying just being happy and sharing that joy and not over-thinking things, letting the stresses slip off my shoulders, smile more, laugh more, let go more. Life should be this and not stressing over situations. Do what you think is right, let that be your reward, and move forward confidently and with ease and be helpful, considerate, and relax so that both you and those around you feel the joy and the togetherness of the moment.

Enjoyed some Pierre Ferand French cognac yesterday celebrating a birthday, a friend turning 75! Wow, what an event, and she looked magnificent. We have some of the " Ambre " 1er Cru De Cognac here at $53.99 a bottle, it is a delicious class-act, one that we have enjoyed selling here for years. With our friend we enjoyed the " Abel " that was a gift to me many years ago by our then local French rep Stephane Defot : merci Stephane!

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FUN to have served some of the Pierre Ferrand Pineau Des Charentes , $33.99, with 17% alcohol by volume, that would have been a treat to have and sip some outside on a beautiful Indian summer day, outside, chilling and relaxing before raking and bagging more leaves!

IT WAS A SPECIAL TREAT YESTERDAY, I made something special of it, pulled out our good crystal-cut glasses and gold-bordered tall glasses for water, for Pruneaux d'Armagnac, and Eaux-De-Vie Cerises, too : all from Sarlat, Perigord, France that were also gifts to us in the past. It was another period of time when things like that were shipped and sold by small companies like D&M Imports, where I knew the Frenchman, the mayor of Sarlat, France, Philippe Melot, great times. They were wonderful, too, that along with the old 1981 Barsac half-bottle that I served, everything showing really well.

I JUST HAD LEON HERE and I showed him some of the SAINT-ANAC Moelleux Bordeaux 2013 sweet wine, $12.99 , 11% alcohol by volume ( go to : www.gvg.fr ). Leon mentioned the Chateau D'Yquem Sauternes that I had written about, we have the 1995 and the 1998 half bottles ( $232.99 a bottle - come get one tomorrow and SAVE 20% OFF this price and pay only $185.60 a bottle !n ) ...

BUT THEN we also have two other FABulous Sauternes that are a bit more affordable for you all :
1) 2011 La Fleur D'Or Sauternes, $37.99, 14% % alcohol by volume, so deliciously ripe and rich and vibrant, bristles and blooms and blossoms right before your taste buds, like a spectacle, like a Las Vegas classy show ...
2) Chateau DDoisy Daene Cru Classe en 1855 2003 Sauternes, $96.99 a bottle, the color is so much more golden dark, like an amber with sun shining through it Lovely, with 14% alcohol by volume!

AND TO THINK that this all came as we sat and celebrated a birthday and I thought of things to share in my family's nice glassware and share with our neighbor's mother turning 75! If I had longer I might have thought of 75 things total to share, as it was between cookies and eaux-de-vie and Pruneaux brandy , and Oregon Semillon late harvest, a 1981 Barsac from Chateau Liot, some Abel Pierre Ferrand French cognac we were started well before heading back outside to finish raking some of our gracious and beautiful fallen fall leaves scattered all over our front lawns! Wow, a lot of fun, from the sublime to the practical and all on a beautiful Monday afternoon before we hads our sunset at just after 5PM that was a streak of the most beautiful yellow that took the form of the strip of a cloud, amazing!

all enjoyed your time with family and friends at home or in the mountains
or at the beach, hiking, biking, camping, sailing, cruising, drifting,
wandering ... :
" Excuse me while I kiss the sky ", as Jimi Hendricks sang so many glorious
moons ago, or ... :
" A child got up to wonder ... " sang Joni Mitchell , again so many
glorious sunsets and sunrises ago ...
HOPE YOU ALL RELAXED, I know I did, my family did, too : so wonderful.
What a gift, what a treat. And the weather was amazing as well.

that please and lull and rock and delight one and one's palate! A special
treat, tasted it here this past Wednesday with Mayer and Maya our New York
importers!
THE HEAT IS SPIKING TODAY, WARM - HOT ALL OVER the country and ...
ALSO A REAL DRY SPELL, almost a drought and my lawn has some brown spots,
something I cannot recall in many years. I mowed it anyway as we were
having guests for Sunday night and it sure did look nice freshly-mowed even
though it was a bit browner than usual. I also weeded and so the front and
back yards looked pretty grand if I do say so myself.
I ENJOYED SOME CLONTARF 1014 Irish Whiskey Classic Blend Triple Distilled,
$19.99, on Saturday night after a busy week and an equally busy Saturday
here. As I told my neighbor it the beautiful night that awakened me and
refreshed me. So did the taste of this CLONTARF : flavorful, just enough
fire and flame and liquid energy to keep things flowing smoothly on a
near-perfect night where there were no mosquitoes, a cooling and gentle
breeze, some stars out, just a few, perfect, and it was a great way to
wind-down, smile, relax and feel one with nature and one's natural self.
WE ALSO ENJOYED the TIERRAS Tequila Blanco made from 100% Agave, USDA
Organic, $36.99, 40% alcohol by volume, blended with fresh lime and lemon
juices to make a refreshing Sunday night mixed drink to enjoy around the
fire I built in our fire pit on our deck out back that was ready to burn
brightly as the cooling effects of the TIERRAS Blanco Tequila soothed and
cheered us all after a grilled meal and lively, bright, animated
conversation, laughs and many smiles, too. It was something my son created
for us as he had learned it from a class in the Big Apple on Mixology and
the Art Of Mixed Drinks. I give him and the drink an A+, and this TIERRAS
Blanco is very special indeed. Eddie Ofori introduced it here to us several
years ago. Thank you Eddie.
